About Us
VIP Wedding Films was founded in 2011 by Derek Sweeney, originally under the name Ultimate Moments Videography. What began as a small passion project quickly grew, and in 2023 we rebranded as VIP Wedding Films — with the same heart, the same values, and the same love for capturing real wedding stories.
Based in Ayrshire, we’ve filmed over 1,000 weddings across Scotland. We’re known for being friendly, relaxed, and easy to have around, while still delivering a highly professional service from start to finish. We genuinely love what we do, and we think that shows in the way we work and the relationships we build with our couples.
To capture your day beautifully, we use a mix of DSLR cameras, high‑quality camcorders, handheld gimbals, and professional RØDE microphones. This allows us to film naturally and smoothly, while recording vows, speeches, and those in‑between moments with crystal‑clear sound.
Over the years, our dedication has been recognised with several top UK wedding awards — something we’re incredibly proud of. But at our core, we’re simply a small team who love telling real stories: the laughter, the nerves, the happy tears, and everything in between.

Derek - Owner
Lead Filmmaker & Editor
Derek Sweeney is the owner and heart behind VIP Wedding Films. With over 30 years of experience in film and media, Derek has always had a passion for storytelling. In 2011, after more than two decades in retail management, he decided to take a leap and turn his creative hobby into a full‑time career — and that’s when VIP Wedding Films was born (originally known as Ultimate Moments Wedding Films).
Since then, Derek has filmed over 1,000 weddings across Scotland, and he’s become well known in the industry for his friendly personality, calming presence, and down‑to‑earth approach. Couples often say he feels more like a friend on the day than a supplier, which is exactly how he likes it. His goal is always to help people feel relaxed, natural, and completely themselves in front of the camera.
Outside of weddings, Derek is a big football fan — a lifelong Liverpool supporter who also follows his hometown team, Ayr United. He loves getting outdoors with his two dogs, Paddy and Jak, and occasionally attempts a round of golf (though he’ll happily admit he’s far better behind the camera than on the course).
Travel is another passion Derek shares with his wife, Maureen, who is also a wedding celebrant. Together they’ve explored beautiful places around the world, with Croatia and Iceland being two of their favourite destinations. The pair even appeared on the BBC show Test Drive, where they teamed up, had a great laugh, and ended up winning the top prize of £500 — a fun memory they still talk about today.
These adventures continue to inspire Derek’s creativity and the way he captures stories through film.
What truly drives Derek is the belief that every wedding has its own unique story.
He takes the time to get to know each couple, understand their personalities, and capture the real moments — the laughter, the nerves, the happy tears, and everything in between.
His attention to detail and genuine connection with people mean that every film he creates is more than just a recording… it’s a heartfelt keepsake that couples treasure for years to come.
Alejandro
Filmmaker
Alejandro joined VIP Wedding Films in 2015 as a freelance filmmaker, and since then he has filmed over 300 weddings, each one captured with his signature artistic style and heartfelt storytelling. He quickly became a cherished part of the team, and his creativity, dedication, and talent have played a huge role in the company’s success over the years.
Couples love him for his calm presence, warm personality, and the beautiful way he brings emotion to life on screen.
Originally from Cuba, Alejandro has a rich background in filmmaking, editing, and producing. Alongside his work with VIP Wedding Films, he runs his own successful production company, creating Cuban films, short movies, and documentaries. His life and work span two cultures — Scotland, where he now lives, and his native Cuba — giving him a unique, multicultural perspective that shines through in every project he takes on.
This blend of influences has shaped a filmmaking style that feels authentic, warm, and deeply engaging. Over the years, Alejandro has earned a strong reputation within the Cuban film industry and continues to grow his portfolio internationally, bringing fresh ideas and cinematic flair to every wedding he films.
When he’s not behind the camera, Alejandro loves spending time with his wife, Farah, and their son, Diageo. Family means everything to him, and that love naturally flows into the way he captures the families and relationships he films. His personal experiences help him connect with couples on a deeper level, allowing him to create films that feel honest and full of heart.
A naturally curious and creative soul, Alejandro is always working on new projects and travelling across Europe and South America. These adventures fuel his imagination and inspire the stories he tells through film.
