We film in a totally discreet and natural style, so that when filming we blend into the background to ensure that every moment of your special day or event is captured perfectly. Derek Sweeney (Owner)
Derek has had a lifelong passion for film and media, bringing over 30 years of experience as a dedicated filmmaker.
After spending more than 20 years in retail management, he decided to turn his creative hobby into a full-time career and founded VIP Wedding Films in 2011. (Originally called Ultimate Moments Wedding Films)
Known for his great personality, Derek combines warmth, professionalism, and a calming presence that helps couples feel at ease on their big day.
When he’s not filming or editing, he enjoys watching football (he is a lifelong Liverpool fan and also follows his home town team Ayr Utd) and golf, taking walks with his two dogs, Paddy and Jak, and occasionally playing golf himself—though he admits he’s much better behind the camera!
In his younger days, Derek was an enthusiastic “Munro bagger,” climbing many of Scotland’s highest peaks. Although his busy schedule now limits his time for hillwalking, his love of the outdoors remains strong.
Travel is another passion Derek shares with his wife Maureen, a wedding celebrant. Together, they’ve explored numerous stunning cities and countries around the world, with Croatia and Iceland among their favourite destinations. These travels continue to inspire Derek’s creativity and enrich the stories he captures on film.
Derek’s approach to filmmaking is deeply personal. He believes every wedding has its own unique story and strives to capture those genuine moments that reflect the love and joy of the day.
His attention to detail and ability to connect with couples ensures that each film is not just a recording, but a heartfelt keepsake to be treasured for years to come.
Alejandro Valera Losa
Alejandro began working as a freelance filmmaker for VIP Wedding Films in 2015 and has since captured over 300 weddings, bringing his unique artistic vision to each project.
His ability to tell heartfelt stories through film has made him a trusted and cherished member of the team.
Born and raised in Cuba, Alejandro is a passionate filmmaker, editor, and producer with a rich creative background.
He runs his own successful production company, where he develops captivating Cuban films, short movies, and documentaries. His work bridges two worlds—Scotland, where he currently resides, and his native Cuba—allowing him to bring a diverse and multicultural perspective to his storytelling.
This dual influence enriches his filmmaking style, making it both authentic and deeply engaging. Over the years,
Alejandro has earned a strong reputation as a respected figure in the Cuban film industry and continues to build his portfolio internationally.
When Alejandro isn’t behind the camera filming weddings, he treasures spending quality time with his wife Farah and their son Diageo.
Family is at the heart of his life, and he often draws inspiration from his personal experiences to create films that resonate on a deeper emotional level.
A naturally curious and creative soul, Alejandro is constantly working on new projects and travelling extensively throughout Europe and South America.
These journeys fuel his passion for storytelling, offering fresh perspectives and unique stories to share. His vast experience, combined with his keen eye for detail and cinematic flair, make him an invaluable asset to the VIP Wedding Films team.
